One benefit of the computer to the conveyor designer is the ability to view all the interdependencies of the system and components and evaluate the most critical design sensitivities.  The objective of design sensitivity analysis is to combine the disciplines of structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering to develop optimum solutions.  Perhaps the greatest benefit of the computer to the designer is the ability to simulate performance prior to building when prototype testing is uneconomical or impossible.  This gives the designer a "feel" for the design, which is often impossible to get any other way.  Even when the use of more advanced simulation techniques require outside resources, their use is becoming more prevalent as the cost of "poor design" and "field testing" increases.
